Anita Schewe Drabyk
I grew up on a farm near Beausejour, Manitoba, where my interest in art, nature and farming was nurtured. I have lived in Pinawa, Manitoba, for the last 25 years. I enjoy photography, watercolours and various other painting media. My photography and art are the result of experimenting with different media and incorporating the advice and expertise of various painters and photographers across Canada through workshops and courses, as well as our local art and photography groups. We grew up in a family where making your own cards was the norm and we had a great aunt who treated us with various art supplies in our childhood – inks, chalk pastels, an art book and much more. My work has also been influenced by my interest, education and career in biology; flowers, plants, mammals, birds and the natural landscape are dominant themes in my work. I work in pencil, pen & ink, watercolour, pastels, acrylic and oil as well as photography.
Living in China for two years and visiting the country a few more times has modified how I look at art and photography. Here again I enjoyed viewing and interpreting rural life, gardens, birds and the physical landscape.
