Throughout her career as an artist, Laura Hilland has experimented with several mediums including pottery, stained glass, and glass fusing. Her work is timeless, and reflects a strong sense of color inspired by her love of nature. Spending her summers along the shores of Lake Winnipeg for the past 13 years has influenced much of her work, exploring the interplay between water and sky.
She achieves the colorful blended effects in her pieces by firing glass at extremely high temperatures in a kiln in her home studio, using varying combinations of color and glass type. She also manipulates the glass using forms and molds to create beautiful custom dishes and panels.
When Laura is not cutting glass you can find her getting her hands dirty in her garden at Victoria Beach, swimming with her three children along the shores of Lake Winnipeg, or volunteering for numerous community organizations.
