Born and raised in Pine Falls Manitoba, Roberta entered her first juried show at 12 of years and at age 16 was featured in Dateline Arts Magazine as one of their ‘artists of the year 2000’ article. She is a mixed media artist who loves to explore different mediums, using them collectively to create lively landscapes and florals as well as whimsical works.

In 2010 she was selected by jury by Maison des Artistes and Heritage Canada for a collaborative Public Art Installation ‘The Storybook Garden’, which hangs in the Library Allard in Saint Georges MB. In 2012 she began working in schools across Southeastern Manitoba and Winnipeg teaching integrated arts programming through the MAC ArtsSmarts programs as well as community access grant programs through Heritage Canada. Her work in education offered an opportunity to study in New York city, NY at the Lincoln Center Institute for the arts participating in their breakthrough Teaching Artist Development Labs. She has worked with several schools with students ranging from kindergarten to grade 12 as well as doing professional development with educators.

She graduated in 2014 from the Community Collaborative Arts Coordinator Program through ACI Manitoba. She also teaches to a global community via video through her website www.robertalaliberte.com where she offers online art workshops.

My work focuses on exploration of surface and texture using many media and tools. I love pairing delicate transparent washes with excavated opaque passages. My paintings are enhanced with gestural mark making using pencil crayons, pastels and charcoal. Hand painted papers collaged and layered with paint create textured surface areas.
