Boozhoo Aniin! My name is Chloe Courchene, and I’m a 25 year old Anshinaabekwe Artist from Sagkeeng First Nation, which is located on Treaty 1 Territory. I’ve been born and raised in Sagkeeng, and I’m happy to say Sagkeeng is my home. I’ve been doing art In the community for 6 years now, I do murals and art such as paintings and graphic design work. I’ve always loved doing art, and incorporating the seven teachings into my every day life. In Ojibway traditions, the Seven Teachings are the gifts of the Seven Grandfathers, The teachings focus on the relationships we have with all of creation and offer ways on how people should treat others. The seven teachings include love, respect, honesty, courage/bravery, truth, wisdom and humility and each teaching is represented by an animal. Each animal helps teach us how we can live our lives respecting animals, people, and every living thing. It is believed that when you follow these teachings it can lead a person to well being and onto a good path in their lives. I enjoy revolving my art around these teaching and the animals that represent them, and I hope you do too.
