Michael Moya
Michael Moya is a first generation Filipino-Canadian artist and illustrator, born and raised in, and originally from Edmonton, Alberta. He is a self taught artist who works in both traditional and digital art mediums. Michael’s traditional mediums of choice is watercolour, alcohol markers, and pencil crayon. Michael draws out a lot of his ideas from his Filipino heritage, and His featured works are inspired from Filipino culture, food, folktales and mythology. His interest in his own heritage and background started from an early age when he read his first Filipino history book.
Besides creating fine art and illustrations. Michael is also an aspiring comic author and artist, who is working on several personal comic projects. He is currently publishing a comic strip series in the Filipino newspaper back in Alberta called “”Bawang the Aswang””.
Michael hopes to promote Filipino heritage and culture through his art and illustrations to a broader audience.
