Tom is a well known artist whose watercolours have been exhibited internationally in several countries including France, Italy, Mexico, Vietnam, and Great Britain. As well, his art has been exhibited nationally in several areas across Canada including B. C.,, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Nova Scotia..One of his watercolours was chosen for the Royal Collection in Windsor Castle in 20001.
Tom’s expressive interpretation of the natural landscaped the water’s edge have been the subject of many of his watercolours. His interests in bonsai, Japanese gardening, and urban scape also provide subjects for his paintings.
Tom’s passion for watercolours stems from his understanding the opportunities this medium provides for working with water, transparent colours, diverse properties of pigments and paper. With each new painting he seeks to explore the way light influences his subjects and their relationship with each other. He uses colour and the properties of the paint, water, and paper to bring out what he sees or would like to see in what he paints.
Tom pays attention to details which characterizes his watercolours. He saw some similarities between his style and that od some of the impressionist artists of the 1800s. This has led to a greater understanding of more modern impressionistic styles. His interest in impressionism continuous to grow through a mutual focus on colour and light.
