I have always had a keen interest in art and have tried different mediums over the years including painting, pottery, drawing, and glasswork. I always return to woodworking. After a career of carpentry, I continued to build and carve by hand until arthritis prevented me from doing so. Also enjoying technology and machines, I took up the challenge of learning to use a CNC router. This allows me to continue to create with wood and has expanded the scope of my work resulting in a variety of wooden keepsake boxes, bowls, and wall plaques. I use mostly self harvested, local wood. I incorporate the natural elements of the wood – for instance, the reds of Manitoba Maple and the yellow edges of Ash – into my carvings. Each piece is produced by a combination of traditional and modern techniques and finished with environmentally friendly products such as beeswax harvested from my own apiary.
